Job Description
A Telemedicine Gastroenterology Registrar is a physician in advanced training who provides specialized care for patients with gastrointestinal and hepatology disorders through virtual platforms. The role integrates gastroenterology clinical expertise with digital health technologies to deliver accessible, efficient, safe, and patient-centred care, while practicing under consultant supervision and in compliance with SCFHS, telemedicine regulations, and clinical governance standards
Virtual Patient Consultations and clinical Management:
gastrointestinal and hepatology conditions.
Utilize telehealth tools (video, phone, secure messaging) to assess, diagnose, and manage patients.
Manage common GI conditions including:
o GERD, dyspepsia, IBS, constipation, diarrhoea
o Inflammatory bowel disease (stable follow-up)
o Fatty liver disease, hepatitis follow-up
o GI-related anaemia and functional GI disorders
Review laboratory results and imaging remotely and adjust management plans accordingly.
Identify red flags requiring urgent in-person assessment or hospital referral.
Develop individualized treatment and monitoring plans in collaboration with consultants.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Participate in telemedicine-driven GI care pathways (e.g., GERD clinics, IBS pathways, liver disease follow-up)
Professional Development and Teaching:
Maintain up-to-date knowledge in gastroenterology, hepatology and digital health.
Attend CME, workshops and conferences.
Participate in case discussion and academic activity.
Support teaching and supervision of junior doctors when required.
Quality Assurance, Patient Safety, and Compliance:
Adhere to internal medicine/gastroenterology clinical guidelines, telemedicine regulations, and ethical standards.
Ensure safe prescribing practices, including dose adjustments in liver impairment.
Monitor and counsel patients regarding medication side effects and warning signs.
Report patient safety concerns and adverse events to the Quality Department.
Participate in virtual audits, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical reviews.
Telehealth Platform Proficiency and Digital Care Delivery:
Utilize telemedicine platforms for video consultations, secure messaging, and lab result reviews.
Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential digital patient records.
Participate in telehealth training and collaborate with IT support for system optimization
Patient Experience and Satisfaction:
Communicate diagnoses and management plans clearly and empathetically.
Provide education on the disease progression, treatment options, and red-flag symptoms.
Address patient concerns and follow-up questions promptly via telehealth channels.
Encourage adherence to treatment plans and follow-up schedules
Multidisciplinary and Consultant Collaboration:

Skills
Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
Completion of Internal Medicine residency from an accredited program.
Fellowship training in Gastroenterology from an accredited program.
Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) classification and registration as Registrar Gastroenterology.
Strong clinical judgment with expertise in gastroenterology and hepatology.
Experience or strong interest in telemedicine-based care.
Proficiency in EMR systems and telehealth platforms.
Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and continuous professional development.
